The North Missouri Action Committee is made up of North Missouri residents — farmers, ag workers, small business owners, teachers, IT professionals, and retirees—who believe rural Missouri matters. We saw that our congressman, Sam Graves, had done very little for our area, and we believed we deserved better.
We put out the word that we planned to work against Sam Graves’ re-election, and many people wanted to get involved. So we formed a committee and got to work. When Graves heard about our committee — and how hard it would be for him to win — he decided not to run for re-election.
We believe community well-being should be the main measure of success. When talking about our elected leaders, we should ask, “What are they doing for us? What policies do they have that help and support rural Missouri?” — instead of asking which party a candidate belongs to.
We’re working with Doug Gray, a political consultant, to develop focus-tested messages that resonate with both rural and suburban voters. We’re also using Rural Urban Bridge’s poll and study, Kitchen Table Messaging for the Populist Era, to help hone our messages. Read it here.

We have already held two successful community forums to give voters a chance to hear from our Democratic candidates in North Missouri:
- Rally for the People — Pictured above, a standing room only crowd on May 2 at The Old School in Cameron, featuring Jess Piper, Will Westmoreland, and 6 candidates.
- Bethany Community Forum — Pictured below, on July 11th at the Veterans’ Memorial building, featuring 4 area candidates and a speaker on Propositions 4 and 5 from the Missouri Budget Project.
